National Grid is hiring a Lead Cloud Engineer for our Cloud and Hosting Delivery Center department in Waltham, MA

Job Purpose

To ensure that Service Delivery maintains the architectural integrity across the service portfolio and across the various suppliers of IT services to National Grid business from current to future state. Further to ensure the alignment and assurance across the designs underpinning the service offerings with the portfolio.

  • Execute cloud vision by providing technical expertise/guidance in cloud technologies
  • Provide proven infrastructure deployments through continuous configuration automation (patterns and repeatable code).
  • Provide operational support for Cloud environment, inclusive of network, storage, compute, OS, and application services.
  • Work with business units to enable migrations from on premise deployments to a public cloud environment.
  • Develop an agile deployment process to improve time to market for infrastructure request.
  • Work with a team of Architects/Engineers to develop approaches for cloud services.
Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for specification, gaining agreement and application of service standards.
  • Engages with technical design and project managers, to ensure understanding of service acceptance criteria and agree processes for testing that criteria are met. D Examines evidence, and evaluates the quality of project outputs against the agreed acceptance criteria, to ensure correct products are produced, on schedule and fit for purpose.
  • Contributes to formal reviews and evaluations when projects and programmes end.
  • Develops own ideas, or the ideas of others, making all the necessary observations and tests and carrying them through to a full practical demonstration, wherever viable and feasible. Where necessary, designs data collection tools and techniques for both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Identifies and responds to the key business drivers and those areas of business need which are not adequately supported by current and planned IT, within the strategic planning time frame. Develops the strategic response to the business requirement, and produces business cases for recommended new applications of information and communications technologies.
  • Reviews new business proposals and provides specialist advice on information management, including advice on and promotion of collaborative working and assessment and management of information-related risk.
  • Evaluates major options for providing IT services effectively and efficiently and recommends solutions. Develops and presents business cases for high-level initiatives to executive management for approval, funding, and prioritisation.
  • Contributes to creation or review of a systems capability strategy which meets the strategic requirements of the business, preparing background documents cataloguing existing IT provision and describing the effectiveness of existing policies, strategies, processes and standards.
  • Develops models and plans for the implementation of the strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. D Conducts post implementation reviews of information and communications technology applications and products introduced in pursuit of the strategy, to assess the extent to which expected business benefits
Qualifications
  • Well versed in cloud constructs from AWS, Azure, and other Tier 1 providers.
  • Proven ability with java, powershell, or 3rd party software tools to create and deploy infrastucture as code.
  • Proven design, planning and implementation experience with all infrastructure components including Storage, Network, and Compute technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise architectures a plus
  • Experience in developing low level designs
  • Work as part of team to execute regionally while maintaining a global view.
