Responsibilities

The Principal Software Engineer in the Marketing Department is the subject matter expert in all areas of code, while providing leadership and guidance, continuously researching new developments, being ahead of the curve on upcoming changes and consistently working to limit the gap between the business and technology. Focusing on 3-5 year plan ahead and mentoring Software Engineers on current technologies.

Work Activities/Context

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.
  • Identifies program issues and defines new parameters to reduce issues for future production.
  • Mentors and coaches on identifying and reducing defects early in testing life-cycle.
  • Testing expert that can train, provide insight on escalated testing, and streamline avenues in the future.
  • Design expert who will develop, tests, and operate end-to-end software solutions using machine learning, related optimization, and knowledge systems.
  • Mentors Engineers on products, facilitates trainings, and continuously teaches-back industry-related updates.
  • Mentors and creates standards to maintain high quality and quantity of work.
  • Mastery expert and directs team on scope of solutions while leading and defining futuristic plans to prevent challenges.
  • Remains abreast of industry trends, enhances scope of how the trends affect the business and promotes plans to mitigate.
  • Expert communication within teams while mentoring on best practices, future initiatives, and communicates effectively to translate Technology information for non-technology leaders.
  • Managing external vendors, learning from industry consortium and doing teach-backs to enhance team’s knowledge. Build network of communication with other companies for industry trends, knowledge sharing and driving innovation.
  • Driving thought leadership among the team, while leading ideating sessions and encouraging group to think about future opportunities.
  • Superior knowledge of Agile best practices, mentors and educates, while researching and innovating updates within methodologies.
  • Guiding escalations and implements systems to enhance solutioning.Identifies strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Estimates cost, effectiveness, and strengths/weakness of alternative solutions while evaluating market options.
  • Understands at a broad level how technology platforms/architectures are applied to automated business solutions.
  • Guiding escalations and implements systems to enhance solutioning.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Estimates cost, effectiveness, and strengths/weakness of alternative solutions while evaluating market options.
  • Understands at a broad level how technology platforms/architectures are applied to automated business solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or equivalent formal training required. Or equivalent work experience required.

Experience:

  • Eight years of work experience as a Software Engineer and business work experience, or equivalent role
  • Experience in Marketing development environment preferred
  • Experience in Airline Marketing development highly desired
  • Experience with programming in SQL and ETL tools preferred
  • Strong knowledge of SQL required
  • Experience in Ab Initio preferred
  • Experience in Teradata preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Work Style:

  • Outstanding knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies obtained through formal training and / or work experience.
  • Ability to mentor and coach through challenges while implementing methods to reduce problems.
  • Mastery of an object oriented programming language.Superior partnering, communication, negotiation skills, execution and lead in working with various partner Teams.
  • Ability to articulate (verbally / visually) ideas, approach, concepts, options, risk, impact, and recommendations to technical, non-technical, and Leadership audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings with medium to large audience of peers.
  • Able to design and implement standards to complete all administrative or project related tasks while researching innovative ways of completion and measuring success.
  • Ability to present to Senior Leaders while making a business case for usage and effectiveness. Researching consistently for new and innovative ideas.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
