Job Description

We are looking for a passionate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to lead this important work at Galvanize. Galvanize’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will lead the development and execution of a strategic plan to increase diversity in the technology ecosystem and create safe Galvanize workplaces and classrooms. This position will work collaboratively with the existing DEI Committee created from all areas of Galvanize and Galvanize’s leadership to make intentional and dramatic changes within our organization and a measurable impact on our culture. This position has the full support of our Executive Leadership Team and the established Committee of passionate employees.This individual needs to be self-aware and have a high EQ, have an authentic commitment to DEI, challenges the status quo, and hold others accountable to prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion; collaborates and excels in working with cross-functional teams and empowering peers to embody diverse thinking; has the ability to manage up and is effective with difficult situations and conversations; self-starter; backs up grand gestures with small and intentional actions making a culture tangible; constant learner of different cultures and treats peers as individuals.Responsibilities include:
  • Being the main point of contact and serving as a consultant for all DEI questions
  • Creating and deploying DEI strategy across Galvanize and working with the DEI Committee, Galvanize Foundation (501(c)3), People & Culture (HR), K12 (parent company), and other stakeholders as is deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Creating and deploying DEI training and curriculum for Executive Leadership, Managers, Employees, Instructors, Students, and other stakeholders as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Creating, publishing, and distributing an annual public impact report.
  • Creating and managing employee resource groups for all identities and holding accountable to the standard operating procedure.
  • Managing company-wide communications around DEI.
  • Managing and creating company-wide activities with a budget for awareness and events
  • Managing issues being reported and handling responses regarding DEI with directness and appropriate confidentiality.
  • Maintaining and fostering collaboration and engagement in Slack and other channels for the Employee Resource Groups, DEI Committee, and across the organization and other stakeholders as is necessary.
  • Managing and expanding Telegraph Track
What is Telegraph Track?
  • An Internal program for underrepresented students looking for non-technical support as they go through the Hack Reactor Software Engineering Immersive program.
  • Provides mentorship, career coaching, and networking opportunities to engineers from underrepresented backgrounds. Expands the program to include pre, during, and post-program support.
  • Develops and deploys DEI content and curriculum week-to-week
  • Creates and maintains partnerships with private organizations looking to host/recruit Telegraph Track students.
  • Logistically managing and leading the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee to build resources for staff and students, host monthly meetings, run task force meetings as identified and needed, manages all Committee to/from comms.
  • Manages with the Coordinator, Galvanize Foundation and Scholarships to identify and secure diverse scholarship opportunities and builds a pipeline of diverse scholarship applicants
Areas that the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will work with:
  • People & Culture Team to develop a strategy for recruiting and retaining diverse candidates, a roll-out plan for training different sectors of business units, vet job descriptions to ensure they are worded appropriately, and build partnerships with organizations that assist in identifying diverse candidates
  • Executive Leadership Team to identify an independent contractor for inclusion audit and schedule for recurrence of audit, secure board positions for ELT to serve diverse community partners with CEO securing a board position on a national organization, build KPI for managers and inclusion strategy, and create a diverse vendor policy with a code of conduct and guidelines
  • Regulatory Team and K12 Advocacy Team to build policies around Galvanize’s inclusion statements, manage company compliance, and build advocacy strategy for the advancement of diverse legislation
  • K12 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to execute strategies across both organizations, as relevant and develop programs that both organizations can execute
About you:Qualifications:
  • Experienced in leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy, either work experience or personal experience by serving and volunteering in your community or at your organization
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Comfortable using data and analytics to develop insights and drive decision-making to effect change
  • Experienced in developing and deploying DEI training across a distributed organization
  • Experienced in creating DEI curriculum for various audiences
  • DEI subject matter expert
Nice to have:
  • Workplace DEI certification
  • Experience leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy at a small to midsize company
