Job Description

DoorDash is hiring an exceptional and experienced Product Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. You will partner closely with product, operations, and other cross-functional teams on all aspects of the Dasher experience and DoorDash logistics network. About the Role

As a Product Counsel for Dasher products, you’ll have a broad range of responsibilities, providing legal guidance on all product and operations initiatives developed for Dashers (the independent contractors who use the DoorDash platform to work). You will serve as the main legal advisor to many of the teams who build innovative features, products, and services for Dashers, manage the quality and efficiency of the DoorDash marketplace, and build new business lines and products on DoorDash and for Dashers. Your internal clients will include product managers and engineers who are responsible for the Dasher app, strategy and operations teams responsible for optimizing the DoorDash marketplace and building new businesses, fraud and trust teams ensuring the marketplace is secure, policy teams advocating for the workforce rules of the future, and the teams laser-focused on continually improving the Dasher Experience. You’ll become an expert on our existing products and will help shape the development of new products, features, and operating models in an ever-changing policy and legal landscape (TL;DR: exciting stuff!).

About the Team

DoorDash’s Legal Team has built a reputation within the company for our highly collaborative and supportive approach to counseling, always with a bias for action. We are a diverse group of lawyers with a shared passion for providing creative and best-in-class service to our business partners. We go above and beyond to help accelerate and protect the business, and above all else, we value and respect each other as teammates. We’re looking for a team player who can successfully work across the legal team, as well as the broader company. Join us!

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Provide product, engineering, and strategy & operations teams with pragmatic and actionable day-to-day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.
  • Serve as the lead product attorney for many key Dasher products and initiatives by advising on laws and regulations relating to consumer protection, worker classification, privacy, payments, marketing, and more.
  • Serve as liaison between your business clients and relevant legal team experts where needed (such as our litigation, privacy, marketing, and regulatory teams).
  • Work closely with the strategy & operations and policy teams in developing new businesses, products, and earnings opportunities for Dashers.
  • Independently develop practical guidance by synthesizing input from outside counsel, your own research, and feedback from internal stakeholders.

We’re excited about you because...

  • You’re able to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have a proven ability to balance legal risk and business objectives in complicated and gray areas of the law.
  • You have strong communication skills and an ability to deeply understand multiple complicated areas of law and apply them to a complicated business.
  • You have a positive attitude and high EQ. You like working with people, and they like working with you. No job is too big or too small!

Qualifications

  • JD from top law school, admitted to any state bar.
  • 5-7+ years legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Strong judgment and ability to weigh risks and rewards.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively.

Bonus Points

  • 2+ years of product counseling experience.
  • Familiarity with the independent contractor classification legal landscape.
  • Familiarity with trust + safety and fraud operations.

If you don't think you meet all of the criteria above but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.
