Job Description

We seek a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to work closely with our leaders and managers to develop and retain top-tier talent and encourage their most creative work. The HRBP will report to the Head of People. This an exciting position that demands excellence in critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and a proven track record of partnering effectively with managers to develop high-performing teams. As a member of the People team, you will play a critical role in creating and maintaining systems to attract, retain, and grow talent. You will work with a wide range of teams including research, product, and business, and will coach and advise managers to build a culture of high performance and continuous feedback. You will also participate in other initiatives for the People team on an as-needed basis. An ideal candidate is flexible, can work autonomously, and can switch rapidly from in-the-moment collaboration to focused solo work. OpenAI is a constantly shifting organization and you will be facing new challenges as the needs of the organization evolve over time.

Your responsibilities:

    • Oversight of our core performance management and compensation processes, including performance reviews and compensation adjustments.
    • Contributing to learning and development and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
    • Coaching managers and other employees on topics such as giving and receiving effective feedback, inclusive and equitable management practices, and general management principles.
    • Fostering positive employee relations.
    • Being a vital source of HR information, answering any questions employees may have.

We're looking for a blend of:

    • 6+ years of proven experience in an HR role at a successful tech or other fast-paced company.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in advising managers toward a culture of continuous feedback, including adaptable methodologies for use in a wide variety of situations.
    • Fluent project management skills: solid attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and handle a number of high-priority tasks across multiple partners and adjust to shifting priorities.
    • High numeracy with skill in extracting meaningful data and making decisions based on both quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and proficiency in communicating with a variety of people in a personalized manner.
    • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
    • Experience resolving employee relations issues.
    • Genuine caring and knowledge about DEI in tech.
    • Outstanding personal integrity and sound, accurate judgment.

We believe you'd enjoy this role if you:

    • Are a people-person . You are energized by interacting with people. You are inspired by the thought of helping people achieve their best performance. You are deeply empathetic and understand how to incentivize people toward desired behaviors based on their unique motivations.
    • Love data. You are not afraid of numbers, charts, or spreadsheets. You know when and how to gather evidence before making a decision but also know when it's appropriate to take calculated risks.
    • Are a lifelong learner. You are unironically passionate about topics that interest you. You are eager for information, tend to be auto-didactic, and enjoy teaching others.
    • Are excited by new challenges. You don’t have the answers to every question up front, but the process of solving them invigorates you. Bespoke issues requiring multidimensional knowledge excite you.
    • Are a builder. You not only embrace the opportunity to have a direct impact on how a company operates, you revel in it. An organization relies on the quality of its foundation and your passion is building strong systems and processes from the ground up.
    • Are passionate about technology and artificial intelligence.
