The opportunity

This role is 12 months fixed term contract (maternity cover).

Working closely with the Head of External Affairs, this role is responsible for managing Just Eat’s media relations activity - both proactive and reactive. The media relations manager works to protect the reputation of the Just Eat brand and devises, shapes and manages stories and campaigns to actively enhance perceptions of Just Eat.

The Media Relations Manager is required to build relationships with colleagues across the business in different departments and international markets as well as with our agencies. As the UK port of call for media contacting Just Eat, the media relations manager is required to run an effective and responsive corporate press office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading on corporate media relations activities for UK business
  • Reactive media strategy planning on a range of topics from customer service, food safety, security and compliance.
  • Leading on proactive UK corporate news announcements to help enhance the reputation of Just Eat
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders to proactively identify and mitigate potential reputational risks
  • Responsible for drafting and publishing content on owned corporate channels (PLC Twitter account, PLC Blog and news releases section of the PLC website) in line with Just Eat’s key communications pillars, working with global PR teams to source good news stories and ensuring collaboration with colleagues through managing global communications calendar and supporting monthly global comms call
  • Managing incoming speaking opportunities, organising media and presentation training sessions for Just Eat spokespeople and conference participants as required, ensuring that internal stakeholders are briefed in advance, working closely with external media trainer to deliver relevant and valuable sessions and reviewing presentations and speaking notes for conferences
  • Forge and maintain relationships with journalists and keep our strategic contacts list up to date to support both reactive and proactive campaigns. Represent the brand externally in meetings with media
  • Raising purchase orders and managing invoicing and supplier contracts for the External Communications team

Required skills and experience

Your Profile & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience within PR or journalism, either in-house or agency
  • Quick thinker, proactive problem solver and ability to take initiative
  • Ability to interpret communications strategy and insights and translate into tangible PR activities with a hands-on approach
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to adapt writing to different channels and audiences
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate written work and maintain focus under pressure
  • A strong understanding of the media landscape, including digital, and strong journalist contacts and networking skills
  • Comfortable operating in both B2B and B2C communications contexts
  • Experience of integrated communications campaigns and an understanding of the basics of other corporate affairs disciplines such as public affairs and internal communications
