WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: Do you love to help teams uncover patterns and solve problems? Are you always looking for ways to optimize and improve upon the way you and your teams work? WHAT YOU'LL DO: ​​You will be leading a design team that is focused on creating experiences that empower external and internal users to configure and connect to the platform in faster, easier, and more powerful ways. You will manage designers that work within cross-functional product teams, partnering with product management and engineering leadership on discovery, strategy, and execution. People managers at Braze have the freedom to shape and meaningfully impact their teams for better business outcomes. While design and research aptitude will inform your role and how you provide coaching for your team, the craft of management and developing your team members will be the primary discipline you will be expected to grow during your tenure.

  • Managing, mentoring and inspiring a team of product designers, pushing the quality of their research and design work, and facilitating their career growth
  • Contributing to the vision and strategy of the product teams you will work closest with, while working with divisional leadership to establish over-arching product strategies and process improvements
  • Identifying and operationalizing overlapping efforts across product teams to ensure consistency for Braze customers
  • Regularly and closely collaborating with Product Management, Engineering and Research disciplines within, and across, departments
  • Recruiting, interviewing and hiring candidates for your team and across the design org
  • Ensuring operational efficiency and accountability for design within this team
  • Serving as both design advocate and ambassador of the user experience
  • Helping to scale our design org, design and research operations, and the long-term health of our product design system, Beacon

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 5 years of design and/or front end development experience combined
  • At least 1 year of experience managing direct-reports
  • Penchant for understanding complex problems and products; unafraid to discuss technical feasibility and long term technology planning
  • Clear, concise, and cogent communicator
  • Structured thinker who uses frameworks to bring structure to projects
  • Organized and thorough; habitually documents and double-checks work
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and learning through experimentation
  • Experience spearheading user research and/or working closely with UX researchers

BONUS IF YOU HAVE:

  • Experience with any aspect of lifecycle marketing
  • Experience working with a mature design system
  • Experience working on SaaS products
  • Experience designing mobile app experiences
  • Portfolio or presentation demonstrating skills in the following areas
    • Strong wireframing/prototyping skills
    • Conducting research and/or partnering with user researchers
    • Partnering with engineers to release features, products, and/or services
    • Working on complex applications
    • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $136,000 and $189,000/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $170,000 and $210,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.
