Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This role is responsible for the leadership and strategic vision of our Individual Disability Claims Operation. You will lead and motivate a team of claims leaders and professionals who are responsible for delivering an exceptional client and advisor experience at the moment of truth for our Individual Disability products. You will work collaboratively with senior leaders within our Insurance business to create a claims value proposition and experience that enables stronger sales to grow our business.

What will you do?

• Effectively balance the needs of many key stakeholders (sales team, brokers, group risk partners, product, pricing, reinsurance, corporate underwriting) when making claims decisions, while also delivering on client and advisor expectations

• Develop and implement a corporate philosophy within claims that is consistent with legal and regulatory requirements, corporate financial goals and customer service needs

• Create a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the claim operations to enable Industry leading process and services

• Lead and enable the claims team to achieve and exceed client experience NPS (Net Promotor Score) target and high Employee Engagement scores

• Create a culture of ownership and accountability with respect to effective and timely resolution of client concerns and issues

• Identify emerging trends and provide insight and direction on claims practices to respond to such trends

What will you need to succeed?

• Minimum 10 years of disability leadership experience

• Proven leadership experience of large client facing operational teams with complex roles

• Demonstrated motivational thought leadership and innovative growth mindset

• Must have superior communication skills; able to communicate directly in a professional manner, with our clients as well as our internal and external business partners

• Ability to lead strategic priorities with impact and influence

• Proven success in executing change while supporting employees through the process and enabling them to focus on business priorities

• Proven ability to coach, mentor, and support professionals to achieve their career objectives

• Ability to write and speak in French is preferred and considered an asset

Plan and direct strategies for all aspects of insurance claims to meet operational, financial, and service requirements for the company. Manage activities through senior managers and managers and implement corporate and divisional strategic plans and budgets.
